Ava Michaels used to think she was special. As a child, she fantasized about having magical powers . . . making things happen. But Ava grew up and eventually accepted the fact that her childish dreams were just that, and maybe a normal life wasn't so bad after all.
Now a young college student, Ava meets Caleb Foster, a brilliant and mysterious man who’s supposed to help her pass physics, but in reality has another mission in mind. What he shows Ava challenges her view of the world, shaking it to its very core. Because Caleb isn't quite what he seems. In fact, he's not entirely human, and he's not the only one.
Together, the duo faces a threat from an ancient race bound to protect humans, but only after protecting their own secrets—secrets they fear Ava may expose. Fighting to survive, Ava soon learns she's not actually normal . . . she's not even just special.
She's a little bit more.

“Is everything okay?” Ava asked.
Caleb smiled, but didn’t look at her. “Sure.”
“You seem . . . I don’t know . . . nervous?”
He glanced at her briefly. “Just doing my job.”
Ava snorted. “Your job is tutoring physics.”
“Call this moonlighting.”
Ava tucked her hands more deeply into her coat pockets as Caleb returned to his steady surveillance. She started to say something more, but forgot it immediately when Caleb stopped suddenly.
“Caleb?”
“Shhh . . .” He stepped in front of her, his head tilted to the side.
“What is it?”
He touched a finger to his lips, his body impossibly still.
Ava froze, pressed slightly against his back as she tried to peer over his shoulder. He stretched his hand behind him, as if blocking her from something, and his fingers curled slightly around her hip, stilling her movement.
A prickle of awareness ran over her skin, stealing her breath. For a long moment, the world seemed to slow around her, growing silent and still, and Ava closed her eyes, unsure what she was searching for, but feeling her consciousness reach out, calling out into the darkness.
Ava gasped suddenly as a strong arm wrapped around her waist, sweeping her up in a blur of motion. Her eyes flew open, trying to make sense of the whirling world around her, and in the next instant, she found herself pressed against a wall, Caleb’s back to her. Her fingers gripped his shoulders as she tried to regain her balance and clear her head. A low voice chilled her blood.
“Get out of the way, Foster.”
No. Not him. Not again. Ava’s confusion gave way to outright fear. She shrank behind Caleb’s back, as if hoping to disappear.
“Leave her alone, Tiernan,” Caleb said, his voice deadly. “The Council gave me three days.”
A mocking laugh grated back at him. “Time’s up.”
“Not until tomorrow.”
“Technicalities aren’t going to change a thing,” Tiernan growled. “The Council’s fed up with your stalling. I’m taking her now.”
“No,” Caleb said, his voice a quiet but not subtle threat. “You’re not.” He grabbed her again, so fast she didn’t even see him move. Once more, she found herself fighting for breath, suddenly behind a tree and unsure of how she got there. A moment later, Tiernan’s hulking frame appeared a few feet away.
“You can’t outrun me, Caleb,” he said, shaking his head. “And you don’t dare risk a shift.”
Another blur of movement and Ava was face-to-face with a door.
“Go inside,” Caleb urged. “I’ll draw him away.”
“What?” Ava shook her head. “What’s happening? Where am I?”
“It’s your dorm,” he hissed. “Hurry, before he—”
“Really, Caleb?” Tiernan’s mocking voice interrupted him. “This is getting tiresome, don’t you think?”
Caleb turned, squaring his shoulders. “You’re not taking her.”
A flash of red and blue lights drew their attention, and Ava breathed shakily at the sight of a police car driving up the path.
Tiernan glared at Caleb. “This isn’t over,” he said.
And then he was gone.
Two city cops stepped out of the car, hands resting on their weapons, one shining a flashlight toward them. Caleb pulled Ava through the door into the dorm.
“What are you doing?” Ava asked. “We need to tell them he was back.”
“Not a good idea,” Caleb muttered. He grabbed her wrist, heading down the hallway, but she yanked out of his grasp.
“Caleb, what the hell’s going on?” she asked, stepping back warily from his angry gaze. “How did you do that . . . move so fast? What happened out there?”
“We don’t have time for this,” he snapped.
She reached for the door, Caleb’s eyes following the movement. Her challenging gaze focused on Caleb as she whipped the door open to run to the police and tell them what had happened.
At least that was her intent.
But before she even turned the knob, Caleb had her across the hall, all but carrying her around the corner.
She gasped. “What . . . what are you?”
Caleb frowned. “That’s not your concern.”
He placed a hand on her forehead, and the world went black.

Forgive Me by B. L. Blair

Leaving Emily was Mitch’s greatest mistake. Can she forgive him?

Growing up, Mitch Carson had always dreamed of leaving Holton, Texas, traveling the world, and writing life altering stories. As an investigative journalist, he made those dreams come true, but he left behind the only woman he ever loved. That was his greatest mistake. Mitch has returned home to see if she can forgive him for leaving her when she needed him the most.

In high school, Emily Fairview had fallen deeply, madly, and completely in love with Mitch. The two of them planned a life together far away from Holton, but when Emily’s family needed her, she chose to stay. Mitch chose to leave. Fifteen years later Mitch is back and wants a second chance, but Emily doesn’t know if she can forgive him.

Return to Holton, Texas one last time to see if Mitch can get Emily to forgive him. Forgive Me is the fourth and final book in the Holton Series but may be read as a standalone novel.

Excerpt:

“Paul seemed pretty excited about that ad campaign,” Emily said after a moment of silence.
Mitch glanced at her and nodded.  “Advertising is his passion.”
“What?” she asked.
“His passion,” Mitch repeated.  “You know the thing he loves.”
Emily cocked her head and gave him a smile.  “I thought Rachel was his passion.”
Mitch laughed.  “Well, yeah, that’s a given.  But advertising is also a passion.  It gets his juices flowing.  He loves it.  You can tell.  I believe everyone has at least one passion.  It may not always be a healthy one, but everyone has to have something that drives them.”
“What do you mean?”
“Take Steven, for example,” he said to her.  Emily looked over at his brother.  “You know him pretty well.  What do you think is the most important thing to him?”
“Anna,” she said promptly.  “Well, and Mia.  And your parents, you, and Tori.”  She stopped and laughed.  “I guess that’s more than one thing.”
“No.  You got it right.  It’s family.  Steven has always been a family guy.  Has always wanted to be with his family, in his hometown.  That’s his passion.”
“Hmm,” Emily said thinking.  “Do you have a passion?”
“Sure, I have three.”
“Three?  What are they?”
He shot her a sly look.  “You tell me yours, and I’ll tell you mine.”
He hadn’t expected the sad look that crossed her face.  She didn’t respond.  He reached for her hand and squeezed.  “Hey, what’s wrong?”
“I don’t think I have a passion,” she whispered.
“Sure, you do.”  She shook her head so he continued.  “You’re passionate about computers.”
She thought about it for a minute.  “Not really.  I mean I like working with them.  I enjoy teaching about them, but I don’t think I can call it a passion.”  She paused.  “I really don’t have a passion.”

“Well, then, I guess we will have to find you one.”

Hard Wear by Marilyn Lakewood

Romance and Fantasy.

There’s a storm of controversy about fantasy vs. reality in romance, particularly in BDSM romance. Certainly, we all have our opinions about what is good and what isn’t.
I enjoy writing and reading books with alpha heroes and elements of BDSM. I love the fantasies in these stories, but I don’t think they portray real-life relationships. I know that romance and all its subgenres is fiction. It’s fantasy.

My stories are fiction. They feature alpha males with varying degrees of sexual dominance, light to hardcore. Like most authors in this genre, I strive to make the physics as accurate as possible—a spanking still stings and cuffs can still chaff the skin. But I also take a bit of artistic license to make the fantasies larger than life. The heroes themselves are often larger than life, perhaps their financial success and physical attractiveness enhanced. It’s part of the fantasy.

Fun to read? Absolutely. But not the norm in reality. I read a statistic that the average male penis is about five inches long—but I’ve yet to read a romance with a hero who is average in that department. We love those hunky, well-endowed heroes.

Of course, romance books aren’t about the real world. They aren’t intended as instruction or “how to” manuals. Romance is entertainment. Like movies and games. It’s a fun, sexy escape from everyday stress or ho-hum.

I think the majority of romance writers endeavor to treat elements such as safety and consent realistically (especially in BDSM titles) while fulfilling the fantasy for readers. That is not to say there aren’t stories with elements of dubious or non-consent, but most of these have pointed disclaimers and warnings in the front material. Also, there’s usually line or two that emphasizes the story is not about real life. Something like: “This is a work of fiction. Names, places, and events, etc. are made up or used fictitiously.”

To me, that applies to sexual situations as well.

One of my favorite disclaimers is the one Loose Id uses with its BDSM titles: “Please do not try any new sexual practice, especially those that might be found in our BDSM/fetish titles without the guidance of an experienced practitioner. Neither Loose Id LLC nor its authors will be responsible for any loss, harm, injury or death resulting from use of the information contained in any of its titles.”

In the real world, sex education (no matter what type of sex you’re interested in) is essential. Don’t skip the education, and always do your research. Read non-fiction. Learn from experts—and even then be careful.

I believe we should enjoy the wide and varied genre of romance for the fantastic entertainment it is, but always play safe in the real world.

Wishing you happy reading …and exciting fantasies.

Book Genre: Romance/Hot Alpha Billionaire
Publisher: Troll River Publications
Release Date: February 14, 2015

Book Description:
Book One of the Hot Alpha Billionaire Series
Stand alone. Not a cliff-hanger. HEA. M/F, Mild D/s themes.
How does a sophisticated man with everything, convince an unassuming older woman with nothing, that she’s what he desperately needs?
At 36, Chase Tanner controlled his world and the women in his bed. With a grown son and several successful businesses, he thought he had everything a man could desire… until he walked down the aisle of a country hardware store and saw exactly what he needed for a happily-ever-after. Now, he
just had to make her believe it.
”You’re just not good enough, Kali.”
Her ex-husband’s hurtful words echoed in Kali Benson’s heart as she rebuilt her life in tiny Laketon, Washington. It took some time, but at 39, she’s happy, self-sufficient, and emotionally armored. She’s strong enough to resist a sweet-talking hunk, who drives an old Dodge truck and makes her feel nineteen again... isn't she?

Excerpt:
Chase took the shortest route to the auto accessories area and cut through the carpentry section. He turned down the aisle and his steps slowed. Fuses, old trucks, everything, dropped off the radar as his gaze focused on the woman perusing the locks-and-hinge display.
Sweet. There was something incredibly sweet and alluring about her. More than pretty, she was arresting. His heart did a drum roll against his ribs, and he drew in a deep, stabilizing breath.
Easing to a stop a few steps away, he positioned himself near the opposite side of the aisle as if he were interested in something other than her. Not the most inspired tactic, but he needed a moment to process her intense effect on him.
In profile, she had a straight, refined nose, full lips, and a balanced chin. Thick, golden-brown hair shimmered in glossy layers past her shoulders, styled with a fringe of bangs across her dark, tawny brows.
When she pulled an item from the display, he noticed she kept her nails a short, practical length, and she wore no wedding ring.
His eyes drifted down her slender length, admiring her lush, handful-size breasts and the pert nipples that dimpled against her knit top. She had a slim waist, gently rounded hips, and a great curvy ass, temptingly displayed in a pair of distinctive cutoffs. They were distinctive to him, at least. Although she’d removed the label, he recognized Soft Wear jeans and understood what the brand signified.
This little beauty might not want anyone in Laketon to know, but if she bought those jeans, she harbored at least some sexually submissive desires.
In a sudden, vivid image, he pictured her in his bed, her body pinned beneath him, his hands holding hers against the mattress. He imagined her thighs around his hips. The first intimate touch of his cock to her sex. Her mouth parted, gasping when he shifted deeper.
The fantasy jolted him.
He flinched and she turned her head.
Large, topaz eyes danced over him, and she smiled distractedly, the merest civility necessary, before returning her attention back to the shelves. He’d been dismissed. There was nothing haughty or superior about it, but apparently she’d found him unsuitable.
A grin tugged on his mouth. He enjoyed a challenge.

About Jacqueline:

Jacqueline Paige lives in Ontario in a small town that's part of the popular Georgian Triangle area. No one has ever heard of Stayner, so she usually tells people she lives "near Collingwood" and no, she doesn't ski at Blue Mountain or at all, in fact she's not even fond of snow.

She began her writing career in 2006 and since her first published works in 2009 she hasn't stopped. Jacqueline describes her writing as "all things paranormal", which she has proven is her niche with stories of witches, ghosts, physics and shifters now on the shelves.

When Jacqueline isn't working at her 'reality job' or lost in her writing she spends time with her five children, most of whom are finally able to look after her instead of the other way around. Together they do random road trips, that usually end up with them lost, shopping trips where they push every button in the toy aisle, hiking when there's enough time to escape and bizarre things like creating new daring recipes in the kitchen. She's a grandmother to four (so far) and looks forward to corrupting many more in the years to come.
